How can natural therapies help for ADHD?

ADHD is Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, a complex and chronic condition which affects the health, lives and families of those diagnosed.

There are a lot of controversies about this condition, particularly with regard to its causes, testing, diagnosis, and treatments, or even if it is a true condition at all, with some people suggesting it is just another type of "normal" human functioning. This is not correct, when there are many known root causes and environmental factors which can contribute to ADHD and its symptoms, and when there are many natural therapies which can reduce the symptoms of ADHD.

Many people think that the medical profession (GPs and mental health specialists) are believed to be the only ones to offer treatments for ADHD, but this is wrong! There are much better ways to help reduce symptoms, to improve your quality of life in all areas - communication, family and relationships, education, work and career, as well as your physical and mental health.

Hence your best solution, if you suspect ADHD or if this has been diagnosed, is to work with an experienced Clinical Nutritionist and/or Naturopath who specialises in ADHD. The ADHD Naturopath will work with you, and your medical team too! We will be careful to work around the medical treatments, and not prescribe or recommend some treatments that may interfere with them.

In any treatment plan, it is essential to identify and treat the root causes of the condition, as well as reducing the symptoms, in order to improve your health and wellbeing! This is what the ADHD Naturopath does best!

There are many evidence-based natural therapies and treatments which can help in the treatment of ADHD, including:
  • Nutritional medicine - to correct any nutrient deficiencies, and reduce excesses
  • Herbal medicine - many herbal extracts or products have potent benefits on the whole body
  • Functional medicine - using specific pathology testing, together with a Naturopathic analysis of the results
  • Lifestyle medicine - improving one's lifestyle to reduce the causes and symptoms, and also to improve whole body function.
Please note that there is no single medical or natural treatment which can treat or claim to cure ADHD. ADHD is a complex and chronic condition of multiple causes and many symptoms which affects the whole body, hence a personalised whole body treatment is needed!
